I wasn't impressed the one time I went here. Maybe it was just a one time bad visit - but it was bad enough to where I will not be going back. The service was terrible. Our waiter kept pushing some kind of special margarita that we had to tell him several times we were not interested in. When he brought the traditional frozen margarita we ordered it was already half melted with a shot on top. It was so strong you couldn't drink it. He said "that's the way we make them here - we don't mix the alcohol in with the drink." To me that was code for - the bar is too backed up for us to actually mix the drinks properly. He was not good at all. He hardly ever came around to check on us, make sure we got everything, ask how the food was, etc. He seemed overwhelmed and couldn't handle all of his tables - and it was obvious. There was a smell at the table of wet towel like they had wiped down the table before we arrived with a dirty moldy smelling towel. When we asked for a few extra plates for our queso we were brought plates that were wet and still had old food on them (see photo). Gross!!! I ordered the stuffed avocado's which I was not impressed with. You can choose steak, chicken, or combo. I choose mix which meant you would get 1 avocado stuffed with beef and chicken. For the price and the size of the portions I thought this was a joke. If you want a good stuffed avocado go to Iguana Joe's where you get 2 huge stuffed avocados. At Iguana Joe's if you order the 'combo' avocados you will actually be served one steak and one chicken! Jimmy Changas was just not good value for the money. Instead I left feeling like I ate a below average meal that was small portions, overpriced, in a smelling environment, with poor service. Next time I will make the drive out to Iguana Joe's if I am hungry for stuffed avocados! On a side note my daughter had one of their combo plates and said it was "okay". Hers did look better than mine - but I still know there are better places to eat Mexican food in the League City...
Read moreSunday we came to have lunch at Jimmy Changas in League City and were not pleased with the service we received. There was a wait for a table, which is to be expected on a Sunday afternoon. Once seated we gave our order and that is where it all fell apart. Other couples and families were seated well after us & got their food while we sat with an empty chip basket and not food. Our waiter never came back to offer drink refills or anything. Were we forgotten? Then a nice young lady came to ask how everything was... it sucked because we didn't have our food yet and other people that were seated well after us were half way done eating. She hurried off... Another female came around to asked how we were we told her our situation. She hurried off. Finally, our waiter came to apologize for the kitchen not having our order ready yet and to refill our empty glasses. Then our food finally came- my boyfriend's was steaming hot--- mine was ice cold. Not even warm! The original female that came to visit our table came by to see how it was. We let her know we were glad our meal finally arrived but mine was stone cold. She offered to have my plate redone but heck no! Long story short- They gave us our meal for 1/2 price and a gift card for $20 off our next visit. I'm guessing my boyfriend's dish was forgotten and mine was sitting waiting to be picked up. Once the guys realized the mistake his food was made and they brought it out--- Hence, the delay and mine being ice cold. Since we are a fan of Jimmy Changas (aka The Monkey Place) we will return. Especially, since we have the gift card. This visit was totally not the norm for this location and I'm glad the management staff stepped in and did their best to correct...
Read moreJimmy Changas is a fun, casual Tex-Mex style restaurant. The food quality and taste is consistently high, offering meals and appetizers from standard "nachos" to "lobster, shrimp and steak fajitas (Mother's Day)".
The staff has always been friendly and accommodating. This is especially meaningful to me since I'm a strict Vegan and eating out is usually a "I'll just have a glass of tea" type of affair. Yesterday when we were at Jimmy Changas, the waitress was so kind and went back to the kitchen (and their online resource?) to verify the ingredients in several of their dishes. I was able to have a delicious lunch of black bean soft tacos using their freshly made corn tortillas. Wonderful.
Another perk that sets Jimmy Changas apart from most of the other restaurants in our area is the outdoor "playground". Adults can relax with a beverage and appetizer at several comfortable outdoor tables and seating arrangements while watching their kids play and climb on the covered recreational setup.
The atmosphere, both indoor and outdoor, is a casual elegance. Feeling right at home in a t-shirt and shorts, you are non-the-less surrounded by opulent light fixtures (see my photo), nostalgic theatrical and bull fighting posters and modern wall mounted "fireplace" features. They also feature a long, raised rectangular fire pit outside on the edge of the patio. Beautiful to look at, this fire pit will also keep you toasty in the cooler months while waiting for a table or watching your kids play.
Overall, I can easily recommend Jimmy Changas to anyone wanting very good Tex-Mex in a "nicer"...
